Fish good or not good for kidney patients

Food is the fuel that makes the body do its work and run. What you eat is what you become. So, your diet can affect your health positively or negatively. But if you have any disease like chronic kidney disease, you should always be cautious of what you are eating. One way to feel better and manage the health of the kidneys is to take a fresh look at what you are eating. If it is needed to make some changes to your diet, then do it now, or else the condition may progress at a faster pace.

Foods that are close to nature, such as beans, whole grains, meat, vegetables, fruits, and legumes, are healthy for the body. But the foods that come in a can are processed using sodium to increase their shelf-life. This processing is based on the chemicals, preservatives, fillers, and sodium, which may further pose a threat to the kidneys and raise blood pressure levels.

Now coming to the healthy state of the kidney patient, the nutritional requirement of their body is quite different from that of a healthy person. A significant percentage of the protein in your diet during CKD can help repair damaged tissues and to heal the damage from recovery.

But at the time of the kidney disease, abnormal amounts of protein appear in the urine. The kidneys are not able to filter the protein as they should, which stays in the blood, only calling various complications. Protein intake is not straight forward in CKD because some patients need to lower their protein intake while some need to increase their protein.

Those on dialysis need to increase their protein intake as the procedure can remove the waste build-up in the blood. Dialysis also removes amino acids during the procedure, which is needed to make the patient healthy and nourished.

The usual sources of protein such as meat, milk, eggs, meat can be high in fat and cholesterol as well. On the contrary, if you have cardiovascular disease or high cholesterol, eating heart-friendly food that is fish is good.

People generally believe that all types of fish are right for them, but for their surprise, it is essential to understand that this is just a myth.

Ask your dietician about the right type of fish and how much quantity one should consume during different stages of kidney disease.
